VIDEO: More asbestos discovered in Mytholmroyd

More asbestos has been discovered in a disused tip uncovered when the Boxing Day floods caused a landslip.

Scout Road in Mytholmroyd has been shut since the hillside started to slide under the force of floodwater.

It uncovered asbestos buried in a council tip decades earlier.

The council insists the public isn’t in danger, but the area’s being closely monitored.

Pupils from nearby Scout Road Primary School are being taught elsewhere.

The floods which caused the hillside to move were unprecedented. The council says whilst the landslide has uncovered danger, it is now a chance to put it right.

We’ve got to do some work on this hillside, we’ve got to stabilise it so we can rule out the danger of any further landslips and we’ve got to cap the hillside so that if we have some dry windy weather in future we won’t get any asbestos airborne.
